Room Naming

Yes. We welcome nominees who have contributed to WHOI's history through a non-science role as well as scientist. Nominated individuals can include ocean science researchers, engineers, administrators, marine operations personnel, policy experts, and any other people who significantly contributed to the advancement of ocean science and technology.

While we acknowledge many people currently working at WHOI would be great candidates, this initiative is intended for candidates who are not currently working at WHOI. Annual awards for Employee Appreciation would be more appropriate for current employees. Nominees for this room-naming initiative can be retired or former WHOI employees, or have no formal affiliation with WHOI.

Yes and please do! Nominations will be assessed on a rolling basis and will roll-over to the next room to be named. Nominations can be accepted at any time. If your candidate was not selected in one round of room-naming, your nomination form will be considered for all subsequent rounds of room-naming.

We will send an institution-wide announcement approximately every 6 months to notify employees that we will start reviewing nominees for a particular room. The rooms to be named will alternate between an academic and non-academic department. For example, the first room to be named was in Fenno and was an administrative room. The next room to be named will be a conference room within one of the academic departments and will be named approximately 6 months later. Your nominations will be assessed every six months and if yours is not selected for that particular round, it will "roll over" to the next round of naming.
